Every state or territory has their own rates for the motor vehicle duty. For Victoria it is 4.2% and 3% for NSW for passenger vehicles.


In Victoria CTP insurance is administered by the TAC (Transport Accident Commission), which is also the sole issuer of CTP green slips. Claims are made to the TAC and they pay compensation for injuries or deaths caused by a car accident.


In Victoria, the Australian Capital Territory, Tasmania, and Western Australia, Compulsory Third Party (CTP) Insurance is included in the cost of your vehicle registration. In New South Wales (where CTP is often known as ‘Green Slip’) and Queensland, you must have CTP Insurance sorted before registering your car.
